JEFFERSON — Jefferson’s summer baseball team split a twin bill versus McFarland at Fischer Field on Monday, winning the first game 7-1 before an 8-7 defeat.

In the opener, the Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead on Finn DeBlare’s two-out RBI single in the second inning.

Jefferson strung together six hits en route to plating six two-out runs in the fourth inning to lead 7-0. DeBlare singled in a run, followed by Sam Steies’ two-run single, Tyler Steinke’s run-scoring single up the middle and Bentley Wagner’s RBI triple to center.

Braxton Thiede started for the Eagles, pitching three no-hit innings with six strikeouts and one walk. Steies pitched four innings of two-hit ball in relief to earn the decision, allowing one unearned run while fanning four and walking one.

McFarland used a seven-run third inning to snatch the lead for good in the second game, which was a five-inning affair.

Jefferson (6-2) scored five times on three hits in the first inning, a rally Noah Copsey capped with a two-out RBI single to right.

In the third, Steies and Jacob Danielson each singled home two-out runs as the Eagles went ahead 7-1.

McFarland tallied six hits in the third, tying the game on Mason Roe’s line shot single to center. Roe scored the go-ahead run on a two-out passed ball.

Symon Byer took the loss for Jefferson, which has a home doubleheader versus Columbus next Monday starting at 5 p.m.
