Albuquerque's homeless crisis amid housing shortages, rising rent
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Video above: New Mexico's Homeless Coalition point-in-time count report shows an increase in homelessness over a three-year span in Albuquerque. The point-in-time count report reveals 1,152 people experienced homelessness in 2021 compared to 1,311 in 2022—a 13.8% increase from the year before. In 2023, the report revealed 2,394 people experienced homelessness, which more than doubled its original numbers with an 83% increase from 2022. 2024's report is not available.
Third wrong inmate recently released in Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A Bernalillo County jail is investigating another inmate being wrongfully released from a facility. It's thethird time it has happened in July. Hospital opens new delivery unit
The delivery was delayed somewhat, but Gila Regional Medical Center opened its new Women and Newborn Services Unit with a baby shower-themed opening Wednesday. The completion of the project, funded by $2 million in capital outlay from the state, was delayed somewhat by plan revision approvals, but it will be open for patients on Friday, said Jasmine Parra, director of the unit. Construction on renovations to the former Maternal Child Department started in January.
More Little Walnut work on the way
The next phase of improvements to Little Walnut Road will get underway in about a month, thanks to a bid awarded by the Silver City Town Council at their meeting Tuesday.
