Homestyle French Toast with Berries: Classic Breakfast at Home

French toast is a treat in my house. There are so many ways you can make this but, this is a classic style of french toast that's so easy and fast to whip up.

I love these loaded with mixed berries.

And of course, a hot cup of coffee!

    Ingredients

    • 4 slices of bread (thick-cut, such as brioche or challah)
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1/2 cup milk (or cream for a richer flavor)
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
    • Pinch of salt
    • Butter (for cooking)
    • Maple syrup (for serving)
    • Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)
    • Fresh fruit (optional, for serving)

    Directions

    • Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon (if using), and a pinch of salt until well combined.
    • Soak the Bread: Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 10-15 seconds on each side. Ensure the bread is well coated but not overly soggy.
    • Heat the Pan: In a skillet or griddle, melt a tablespoon of butter over medium heat until foamy.
    • Cook the French Toast: Place the soaked bread slices in the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Add more butter to the pan as needed for each batch.
    • Serve: Remove the French toast from the skillet and keep warm. Serve immediately with maple syrup, a dusting of powdered sugar, and fresh fruit if desired.

    What do you think?

Make this a complete breakfast with a side of hashbrowns and scrambled eggs. Enjoy
