    Ingredients

    ¾ cup granulated sugar

    ¾ cup brown sugar, packed

    2 large eggs

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

    1 teaspoon baking soda

    ½ teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups chocolate chunks (or chocolate chips)

Optional: 1 cup chopped nuts (like walnuts or pecans)

    Directions

    Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: Cream Butter and Sugars

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes.

Step 3: Add Eggs and Vanilla

Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.

    Step 4: Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

Step 5: Add Chocolate and Nuts

Gently fold in the chocolate chunks and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

    Step 6: Scoop the Cookies

Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

    Step 7: Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers look slightly underbaked. They will continue to firm up as they cool.

    Step 8: Cool and Serve

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy your delicious chocolate chunk cookies!
