Alleged gunman in gang-related shooting arrested

A third suspect has been arrested on an attempted first-degree murder charge following what police say was a gang-related shooting last month in Jennings.

Jonah Uriah Landry, 23, of Jennings was arrested Monday with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Service and Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office while fishing on a pier in Cameron Parish.

Landry faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal carrying or discharge of weapons; obstruction of justice, possession of marijuana and several traffic violations in connection with the shooting.

“The shooting investigation is still pending and further arrests may come,” Det. Eduadro Mendoza of the Jennings Police Department said Tuesday. “At this time, we are still actively working on it.”

Landry was the main suspect being sought in the shooting, which occurred on June 20 near the intersection of South Main and Levi streets in Jennings, according to Mendoza.

Landry allegedly fired a gun from his vehicle into a passing vehicle before fleeing the scene. One of the bullets struck a 22-year-old victim in the leg.

Two other suspects, Tanner Wayne Matt, 26, of Gueydan and Tarvis Dwayne Williams, 28, of Lake Arthur were arrested on multiple charges in connection with the shooting.

Matt was arrested on two counts of accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder and three contempt of court warrants. Williams was charged with two counts of principal to attempted first-degree murder, principal to an illegal discharge of a firearm and obstruction of justice.
