Pershing Field Pool to get $200K Lighting Update

JERSEY CITY, NJ- Jersey City is seeking funds from the Community Development Block Grant Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program it participates in to upgrade lighting at Pershing Field Pool at 210 Central Avenue.

At its July 10 meeting, the Jersey City Municipal Council approved a resolution awarding unallocated funds from the Community Development Block Grant Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program year 2022, and authorizing a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Recreation and Youth Development, for an improvement project to Pershing Field Pool.

According to the resolution, the primary purpose of the CDBG-PF program is the development of viable communities through the provision of decent affordable housing, a suitable living environment, and supportive social services, food, and other basic needs for seniors, families and senior caregivers. CDBG-PF funds also help support infrastructure and facility projects including improvements, repairs, or expansions of community centers.

Federal funds are available under the CDBG-PF program, administered by Jersey City’s Division of Community Development, to improve public facilities. As such, the Department of Recreation and Youth Development is requesting CDBG-PF funds to install overhead lighting to create a safer environment and allow for extended community access at Pershing Field Pool.

The total project cost is estimated at $198,718. The move follows the repair of the retractable roof over the indoor pool in 2022, to increase airflow and enhance swimmers’ experience in the pool.
