Local Dingmans Ferry PA Restaurant Denies Access to legal Seeing Eye Dog

Jes Manning
On Friday April 19th I was with my friend and my seeing eye dog. My dog was in her guiding harness and has a vest with “guide dog do not distract handler is blind.” My dog was trained from Pilot Dogs in Columbus Ohio. On Friday I was approached by the manager asking if my dog was a service dog or a therapy dog. I said yes, she’s a service dog and the manager insisted that my dog was a therapy dog and kept telling me the difference between service dog and therapy dog. I carry ADA cards with the law on service animals, the manager took the card and told me she knows the law. My friend called the police and they couldn’t help because it’s federal law. We went back inside and videotaped me handing over my dog’s identification card from the guide dog school and the manager refused to see the card. The manger still insisted my dog was a therapy dog and told me I needed to show her a red card. I have no idea what a red card is except my identification from the guide dog school. On May 9th my mom and I went to meet with the owner of the restaurant. My mom and I give free seminars on the ADA to help educate facilities on service dogs. At the restaurant we were offering our services and the owner said yes to the seminar. During the meeting the owner had an attitude and didn’t want to hear what my mom and I had to say about service dog rights. The bartender of the restaurant got involved and called the police. Stating that we were yelling and throwing chairs. I did knock over a chair from walking into it but never through a chair. The trooper showed up and took the owners information and then came over to my mom and I and took my mom’s side of the story but never addressed me “it was like I was invisible.” When the trooper asked for my identification he didn’t ask me he was asking my mom. I also handed over my dogs identification from the guide dog school. The trooper brushed us off and we were told we are no longer allowed at the establishment or on the property or we will be arrested. The trooper escorted us off the property. When my mom asked any questions the trooper was short with her and didn’t want to answer. He acted like he had no time for us. Please help and support us on discrimination of disabilities and legit service dogs!

the police force should be notified , and maybe teach their officers the law on service animals . I hope the officer doesn't have a k9 service dog . 🐕‍🦺 🙄

That’s terrible! Thank God you were given a therapy dog to help you navigate safety! To have to argue with an oviously sighted person why you should need assistance or denied being served because of it goes beyond comprehension! Then to have the trooper side with the restaurant manager is beyond insulting! However I would be reluctant to eat there after such treatment and hopefully those in the area reading this will educate this establishment about community service if they hope to remain in business!
