In 22 states including Florida and Texas, seniors will have fewer Medicare Advantage plans available in 2025 according to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid CMS data. However, in some major states like California and New York, there will be significantly more new plans available.

Major Medicare Advantage insurers, including Humana, CVS Health, Cigna and Centene, have announced plans to exit some Medicare Advantage markets next year. Several million seniors will be affected.

Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period, AEP begins in a few days. Because millions will be shopping for replacement coverage starting October 15th, seniors are urged to begin the process early to avoid finding experts having no time to speak.

Pennsylvania will see the largest number of Medicare Advantage (MA) plan exits in 2025. There will be 35 fewer plan options available than in 2024.

California will have 44 more MA plans available in 2025 than in 2024. New York will see 39 new plan options.

Here are key states where the number of Medicare Advantage plans is declining:

    Colorado - 132 (2024) - 120 (2025)

    Georgia - 178 (2024) - 162 (2025)

    Illinois - 165 (2024) - 157 (2025)

    Indiana - 155 (2024) - 144 (2025)

    Louisiana - 112 (2024) - 99 (2025)

    Maryland - 68 (2024) - 64 (2025)

    Minnesota - 102 (2024) - 100 (2025)

    Mississippi - 88 (2024) - 72 (2025)

    North Carolina - 180 (2024) - 163 (2025)

    Pennsylvania - 316 (2024) - 281 (2025)

    Tennessee - 131 (2024) - 118 (2025)

    Texas - 381 (2024) - 373 (2025)
