    Man dies after being hit by semi-truck in Toombs County

    TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – The Georgia State Patrol is investigating fatal a crash that killed a 44-year-old Jesup man Friday afternoon.

    The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office said the crash involved a white semi-truck flatbed trailer and a pedestrian near the intersection of US Hwy 1 South and CH Slaton Road.

    Upon arrival, deputies observed the semi-truck driven by Roberto Cabecera, 34 of North Carolina, parked on the shoulder of the northbound lane of US Hwy1.

    According to the sheriff’s department, pedestrian William Michael Hadlock 44, of Jesup, was pronounced dead on the scene. Cabecera was not injured.

    The sheriff’s department said, according to preliminary reports, Cabecera was traveling north on the highway and Hadlock was seen walking south in the middle of the roadway.

    There are unconfirmed reports that prior to the accident, vehicles were having to avoid Hadlock as he attempted to travel out in front of passing vehicles, officials said.

    The accident has been turned over to Georgia State Patrol Post 18 (Reidsville) for further investigation.
