Opinion: Why Did Dominion Take the Money Instead of Actually Winning Against Fox News?

Dominion could have been a real corporate Hero.

Gone against Fox News. Won the case. Exposed the lies in open court and gotten the villains to take the stand in front of the American people. They chose money instead.

    Can you blame them?

From a viewpoint that we can ALL relate to - needing money - they said yes to a lot of it. They said yes to taking the lead, defending their name, and running with it out in the open, with social media and the world listening in on the depositions and testimonies.

To the lies. To news anchors looking the other way. To do what it takes in the corporate world to make a profit. To keep people coming back.

Dominion found themselves in the “Red Zone” with the trial starting and the end of the game near. The live testimony would soon begin with one news personality after another taking the stand and telling everyone their dirty secrets on why they did what they did. We were all waiting and looking forward to it.

But then they took a knee.

They huddled with the lawyers and the strategists and weighed taking almost a billion dollars in payment or risking losing it all in a trial. They accepted the money and the victory.

But was it a victory, for all of us?

    What should they have done?

Fox News had shown the other side, the darker side some might say. The theories, the conspiracies. The clandestine backroom shenanigans where Dominion voting machines were allegedly being “adjusted” to take votes away from Trump and given to Biden.

They had guest after “expert” guest on their shows telling the world that the steal was happening when it wasn’t.

Like believing Chicken Little telling everyone the sky is falling over and over again when you know it’s false. When you know the little guy is having issues with the truth and the sky is where it’s always been - directly above.

Fox News did what all corporations do - went for the money. Got the listeners coming in every night to hear those experts. Got the ratings boost of a lifetime. Got the advertisers ponying up the big bucks for 30 and 60-second slots. They got the shareholders patting their backs and giving them thumbs up as they jetted off to vacation spots around the world.

They got the world believing that what wasn’t happening actually was - no mean feat to alter reality. Like bending the course of a river, it takes time and effort, and a lot of money to make opinions change.

And they pulled Dominion into the conversation. Allowed people, famous people, to point their fingers at their machines, that they were at fault. That they contributed to the steal. When they didn’t.

But in the end, Dominion said enough. Had their opponent in a “choke-hold” of sorts, maybe about to submit, maybe about to try something else to win their case, so Dominion slapped the canvass. They stopped the match and called it a draw.

Did they do the right thing?

What could have happened was that people involved in the “fake news” would have gotten on the stand and under oath explained what they were doing and why. They would have been asked probing questions. They would have been asked again if they knew the information about Dominion was false. They would have been asked again if they knew the people making these claims were also fake. And all of us out here who have been living with the aftermath would have heard it all.

Would have perhaps changed our opinion, our way of looking at the last two years. That might have made a big difference in our lives or none at all. But it would have been newsworthy. It would have been worthy of a spot on someone’s six o’clock news.

It would have been nice for the American people on both sides to make up their own minds. See who was really behind the curtain creating the special effects.

Dominion could have been the hero. They’re certainly not the goat. They fought the good fight. They won for themselves and their shareholders. But did they win for us - the millions who use their machines and had to live with the lies?

No, not really. They did what 99% of us probably would have done. Taken the money and called it a day.

Too bad though, it would have been fun to watch that show.
