Opinion: We All Make Mistakes. Voting For Trump Shouldn’t Be One of Them. Do You Agree?

    Party Politics

What is it about politics and party obsessions that make us do stupid things?

If a dry cleaner ruins your trousers twice, would you give it another chance?

And if you failed at marriage two times running, would you dive into a third one without figuring out what went wrong the first two times?

Trump was elected president in 2016 and won. Some say he did okay, but many others are still saying prayers.

So, he ran again in 2020 and lost, only never accepted it, along with several million of his voters. Then the January 6 Insurrection took place – but millions more called it a pep rally for the president.

He has spoken of his affection for dictators and his desire to become one because he feels that is the best form of government. According to the polls and on-the-street conversations, many of his followers are willing to go along.

He’s on trial for crimes; found guilty of others and ordered to pay close to a half billion in fines and restitution. And yet he wins almost all of the Republican primaries.

    Making Mistakes - Again

In politics, we forgive sins that few in history would have been accorded the same privilege.

He talks in incomplete sentences, moving indiscriminately from one subject to the next, and yet he’s considered an eloquent speaker by many. A man of the people who has lived as a billionaire his entire life.

At some point survival instincts kick in for all of us, right?

As a teenager we’ll play a game of chicken but will swerve at the last second, unwilling to die on a dare.

Many will walk down the aisle, with guests and family all along the way, and say No at the last moment because they’d rather not live the rest of their life with the wrong person.

But because many don’t like the Democrats and believe some outrageous things about them, Mr. Trump becomes an excellent alternative.

    But by what standards?

    Immigration, Not Really

His 2018 tax cut helped more millionaires and billionaires than it helped the average citizen. But many refuse to believe this, looking at their tax returns and the few hundred dollars extra as proof, while most corporations in America with profits in the tens of billions pay little or no taxes.

Who makes up the shortfall? We do.

He goes on about immigration, which is an important issue but tells the GOP to shelve the bipartisan Immigration Bill passed in the Senate.

Because it’s terrible and does nothing? No, because he needs an issue to make Biden and his administration appear less than it is.

    Making Them Is Easy

A mistake is an action or judgment that is misguided or wrong.

We all make them. Nobody goes through life without making a few major ones, but nobody stands tall after making a huge mistake and shouts – I’d do it again. Why would they?

When you choose the wrong restaurant – who cares?

When you pick the wrong movie for date night – not the end of the world.

When your new car turns out to be a lemon, you see a lawyer and get a new one from the lot.

But when you give a man, any man another four-year shot at running our country we all have to be certain he’s the right one. And not just the Other one.

Our economy is better than it’s been in years. Yes, inflation is there. But let’s be real about where it comes from. It didn't start in the Oval Office.

Look over at corporate profits during the Pandemic and the years after it – still rising. There’s your answer.

A profit is the money left over after all costs have been accounted for; material, labor, overhead, and so on.

If a company raises the cost of milk because feed costs have doubled and their profits go up 50% or more, they are doing more than covering their costs. They are gouging.

Vote your conscience, sure. Feel good about your decision. Just please make sure the decision is based on facts verified by you, and not from the guy on TV.

    It’s that important.
