    Author’s Note

This article is based on corporate postings and accredited media reports. Linked information within this article is attributed to the following outlets: ScrapeHero.com and The-Sun.com.

    Introduction

In recent months, most of my articles on the Starbucks coffee chain have pertained to store closures or unionization controversies. This piece will be an example of the former, as now comes word that perhaps the country's most iconic company location, in New York, has permanently closed.

The Astor Place Starbucks in New York City was nearly 30 years old and a haven for celebrities and movie scenes, including for "Sex in the City: The Movie."

For perspective, per ScrapeHero.com's most recently updated store location count: There are 16,621 Starbucks stores in the United States as of July 01, 2024. The state and territory with the most number of Starbucks locations in the US is California, with 3,133 stores, which is about 19% of all Starbucks stores in the US.

    Let us explore further.

    Starbucks, 2024

According to a July 29th report from The-Sun.com, the reason for the Astor Place closure is in dispute. Yesterday was the coffee shop's last day of business.

As excerpted from the report: Management of the store told the blog that the main reason behind the closure was increased rent... However, a representative for the company that owns the space – ASG Equities – disputed the claim.

For their part, ASG said they had offered a lease extension at the same rate to keep the store situated in the location.

    Conclusion

In the event of pertinent updates to this matter, including a clarification on reason behind the closure, I will share them here on NewsBreak.

    Thank you for reading.
