This article is based on an accredited media reports. Linked information within this article is attributed to the following outlets: Chron.com and The-Sun.com.

    Introduction

Houston's Greenspoint Mall is permanently closing.

Per Chron.com, a new apartment complex called Summit at Renaissance Park, developed by the Zieben Group, will replace a vacant Sears Auto Center.

From the report: In 2021, the City of Houston approved a $15 million loan to help fund the 325-unit "affordable workforce" development, as part of the Hurricane Harvey Multifamily Program.

    Let us explore.

    Greenspoint Mall, 2024

Per a July 31st report from The-Sun.com, the mall's vendors have to be out of the location today or risk losing their inventory.

As excerpted from the report: The mall was littered with broken windows that leaked rainwater into scattered buckets. There wasn't even air conditioning in the building leading up to the closure.

Houston's Greenspoint area has had a longstanding reputation for crime, which has reportedly lessened in recent times per The-Sun.com.

Retailers are said to be interested in the space but no official announcement has yet been made as to the mall's replacement(s), other than the housing complex being built in its parking lot and vacant Sears Auto Center.
