Introduction

As I had discussed in a prior piece published by NewsBreak, according to an archived report from The New York Times Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October of 2023 due to unmanageable debt.

As an early repercussion of that bankruptcy, a first-round of 154 national Rite-Aid locations were scheduled to close, including several in the state of Ohio.

In June, the company officially announced the following 15 Ohio closings, per a June 17th report from WZZM13.com:

• Defiance, Ohio (1816 E 2nd St, Defiance, OH 43512)

• Toledo, Ohio (2434 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43613)
• Warren, Ohio (1560 Parkman Rd NW, Warren, OH 44485)

As I also reported, five more Ohio locations shuttered shortly thereafter:

• 713 North State Street in Girard
• 147 West Liberty Street in Hubbard
• 4914 Youngstown-Poland Road in Youngstown
• 25 West Main Street in East Palestine
• 569 High Street in Cortland

Subsequently, the company announced 15 more then-pending Ohio closures, and now has come word that a slew of additional state locations are also closing.

In short order, the company will become veritably invisible in the state.

Rite Aid, 2024

According to a September 1 report from The-Sun.com, the latest Rite Aid locations announced as closing in Ohio are happening in the city of Cleveland, leaving but four remaining in the state.

As excerpted from the report: Rite Aid is set to shut its remaining stores in the city of Cleveland, Ohio, by the end of the month... And before the end of the year, there will only be four Rite Aid stores remaining in the state of Ohio, according to PBS affiliate WVIZ.

Prescriptions will continue to be filled for now; information on prescription transfers is forthcoming.
