NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Most of St. Tammany was spared from Thursday’s (July 18) severe storms, but heavy rain and ongoing drainage issues left one neighborhood underwater. The parish’s director of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness, Clint Ory, said the Cross Gates neighborhood on the east side of Slidell was the only place in St. Tammany to report significant street flooding.

Police: Homeless man arrested after carjacking, assaulting woman in Waveland
WAVELAND, Miss. (WLOX) - Thursday, the Waveland Police Department announced the arrest of 24-year-old Taye Thomas-Troy Dufrene after the investigation of a carjacking. The incident took place around 8 a.m. Thursday morning, which is when investigators say a woman was approached by Dufrene in the parking lot of Wal-Mart and asked her for a ride, offering money in return. She agreed, and as the woman drove into the area of Avenue B and Coral Street, Dufrene began punching her in the face and said he would kill her if she didn’t get out of the car. She complied, and Dufrene drove off in the vehicle.
Life Saved by Slidell Police - Narcan Worked!
This past week, Slidell Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing it had several equipment violations and that it was driving in a manner consistent with impairment. As officers spoke to the vehicle's operator, it was immediately evident that the operator was impaired. During the initial stages of the investigation, it appeared that the driver of the vehicle was the only occupant - that was until officers located a male subject "slumped over" in the rear seat, barely clinging to life. Officers quickly recognized this as a drug overdose and administered Narcan. The Narcan worked successfully, allowing the male to regain consciousness, and the male subsequently received necessary medical treatment on scene from paramedics and he was transported to a medical facility for further treatment.

Slidell fishing pier closed since Hurricane Ida gets $2.4M from FEMA for repairs
St. Tammany finally has federal money to repair a fishing pier in the Slidell area that was damaged during Hurricane Ida. The money comes courtesy of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which will fund $2.4 million in repairs to the pier, Parish President Mike Cooper said in a statement Thursday.
Pearl River-area Recreation District's former secretary arrested for theft
The former secretary of a local recreation district has been arrested after stealing more than $25,000 from the district. Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Financial Crimes Division were notified in January by board members of the Pearl River-based St. Tammany Recreation District 7 concerning the possibility of missing funds in the district’s account.

Pearl River area recreation district employee stole $25K, sheriff says
A former secretary at a Pearl River-based public recreation district has been arrested and accused of stealing more than $25,000, authorities said. Brittany Ward, 36, was booked on a warrant Wednesday for theft over $25,000 and forgery, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said. Ward is accused of stealing $25,277 from St. Tammany Recreation District 7.

District Attorney Collin Sims reports that today (Friday, July 19, 2024), a St. Tammany Parish jury deliberated less than an hour before returning guilty verdicts against 43-year-old Majuangy Evans of Slidell for Distribution of Fentanyl, Conducting a transaction involving proceeds known to be derived from a drug law violation and Possession of Methamphetamine. Assistant District Attorneys Christina Fisher and Casey Allen prosecuted the case. Judge John Keller presided over the three-day trial.
