Edward “Eddie” Barrett Jorgensen passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024 at the age of 61. Loving father of Elisabeth B. Jorgensen (fiancé Bobby). Stepfather of Ashley Wallace (Joshua). Son of the late Edvard Jorgensen and Margaret Barrett Jorgensen. Brother of John Jorgensen (Kathy), Margaret Tingle (Edward), Maria Kinney (the late Roy), Elisabeth Manguno (Joseph), Donna Jorgensen (Vic), Nancy Bernard (Joseph), Anita Jorgensen and the late Linda Gerhart (David). Proud grandfather of Colton, Casen and Lily. Eddie, born on April 5, 1963, in New Orleans, La., passed away surrounded by loved ones in Slidell, La. A dedicated project manager for Voekel-McWilliams, Eddie brought passion and commitment to his work. His life was enriched by his love for fishing and hunting, but nothing surpassed his love for the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren. He had a unique talent for making people laugh with his captivating stories, leaving so many wonderful memories for all who knew him. As the youngest of nine siblings, he was well loved, and affectionately known for his good nature and generous heart. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. His legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Relatives and friends were invited to attend a Memorial Visitation and Service held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., in Chalmette, on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Ana “Maggie” Beckett, age 88, of Mandeville, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. She was born on November 7, 1935, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Wallace Jack “Wally” Beckett, Sr.; son, Wallace James “Wally” Beckett, Jr.; grandchildren, Brittany Beckett, Dallas Beckett, and Ryan Roe; eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Isabel Gil, Roberto Gil, and Norma Yorsh; and many extended family members and friends.
Rec District Secretary Arrested for Theft
The former secretary of a local recreation district has been arrested after stealing more than $25,000 from the district. Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Financial Crimes Division were notified in January by board members of the Pearl River-based St. Tammany Recreation District 7 concerning the possibility of missing funds in the district’s account.
Community celebrates National Hot Dog Day in the Bay
The community came out in Bay St. Louis today as the police and fire departments teamed up to host Hot Dog Day in the Bay. Kids came out to MLK Park to play basketball with the officers. Officer Roy Fullerton said the event was hosted to benefit organizations in the city. “This is an effort that we partner up with the Bay St. Louis Fire Department in order to engage and mentor our young people in the community of Bay St. Louis. It is a complete event for the benefit of the Boy’s and Girl’s Club, Head Start, and any community member. We are just being kids today! Have fun!”
