It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald R. Labat who left us May 23, 2024 at the age of 68. He is survived by his previous wives Ellen Lee Labat and Reba Labat-Lawson,(Ralph) their two children Maya & Marcus, and twin grandchildren Ella and Laila, brothers David(Ann), Brian(Rymsky), Patrick(Cheryl), Kenny(Dolores), Jay and sisters Carol(Robert), Penelope, Linda, Karen(Ron). He was preceded in death by his mother and father Joseph and Loretta Labat, brothers Bernie and Steven, sisters Carmen, Lynette(Curtis). He took pride in his family and cherished every moment spent with them throughout his life.

Elizabeth Jane “Janie” Walker Lasseigne, 63, of Pearlington, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, July 12th 2024, in Slidell, Louisiana. Janie was born on February 14, 1961 in Huntsville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Vance; her father, Cecil Walker Sr.; stepfather, Robert Vance; and brother, Michael Vance.
Mandeville Council gets Madden's budget, public hearings set
The Mandeville City Council will hold a series of public hearings in July and August to scrutinize Mayor Clay Madden’s proposed budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year. At the July 11 council meeting, members called for the hearings to be held on July 25, July 30, July 31, Aug. 20 and Aug. 21, all at City Hall. The July 25 meeting will take place at 5 p.m.; all the others at 6 p.m.
James Alvin Graham
James Alvin Graham, age 89, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, in Slidell. James was blessed to have two birthdays. He was born January 25th, 1935, in Bassfield, Mississippi; however, the small-town Mississippi doctor didn’t get there to certify his birth until two days later. From thereon out, he continued to do things his way. Joining the Navy in his teens and retiring after 28 years as an E-9 Hull Technician Master Chief in 1978. He “dropped anchor” in Slidell, Louisiana, where he joined Martin Marrietta and then retired again from Lockheed Martin in 2001. He was a founding member of Thompson Road Baptist Church. His faith was strong, and his family ties went deep, and his friends were many.
New art gallery opening doors in Long Beach

Although the gallery is woman-owned by Nora Childers, it is not exclusively featuring female artists. The official grand opening will be on July 17, with a ribbon-cutting at 4 PM. The gallery showcases diverse art styles including traditional, contemporary, and mixed media, as well as jewelry. Notable artists include Joshua Blinkinship from Tennessee and Brian Hill from Mississippi. Nora aims to provide more exposure for local artists and plans to offer guitar lessons by Josh Arnold.

I have enjoyed Echinacea coneflowers in my landscape for many years, and I find that these striking perennials bring a burst of vivid color to gardens. While recently visiting the home of Dave Overturf and Ginger Wentz in Long Beach, I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful Echinacea coneflowers they have in their landscape. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith is urging residents to lock their car doors following a rash of vehicle burglaries which occurred last week in the Slidell area. Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Burglary Unit have arrested two Mississippi men in connection with the more than 10 unlocked vehicles that were burglarized last week in the Bluffs neighborhood near Slidell.
15-year-old missing out of Picayune
The Picayune Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 15-year-old Macayla Lynn Vice. She is pictured below. Macayla is described as 5’2” tall and approximately 130lbs with short brown hair. She was last seen on 07-12-2024 at approximately 9:30 PM. She was wearing gray sweatpants and a black and green hoodie with a Tom and Jerry t-shirt under it.

Proceeds from the event benefits the Captain Vincent N. Liberto Jr. Memorial Fund and the Greater Mandeville Police Foundation's Christmas toy fund. Liberto, a captain with the Mandeville Police Department, was shot to death after a car chase in 2019. The event featured 14 teams competing for jambalaya paddles and plaques, activities for children, sno-balls, crafts, music and a toy drive.
