Readers Respond to the Latest Contortions in Oregon Homelessness Policy
The clearing of homeless camps from Portland’s streets is often and crudely described as a game of Whac-A-Mole. But another frivolous analogy comes to mind after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled cities could enforce strict camping bans: Homelessness policy on the West Coast has been written with an Etch A Sketch, which the courts shake every few years, sending cities and states back to the drawing board. Oregon, which structured its camping laws around previous court rulings, now must decide whether to draw them again (“Breaking Camp,” WW, July 10). Missing Central Oregon Youth Found in Southern Idaho
SPRAY — On July 13 the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a report of two missing juveniles from Spray, Oregon, at about 7:20 pm. It was reported the youth were on a camping trip in a forested area inside Morrow County. At the end of the camping trip, they told their parents over the phone that they would be returning home to Spray from Heppner.

Gang member arrested after man fatally shoots himself at Caldwell party
CALDWELL, Idaho (CBS2) — Caldwell Police officers responded to a call on July 20 at 2:30 a.m. from a home in the 200 block of Friar Drive reporting a shooting. Officers found a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head at the front door of the home. Medics were dispatched and the male was declared deceased.

Campfires prohibited across BLM's Northwest Oregon District
Starting July 23, campfires will be prohibited on all Bureau of Land Management public lands throughout the Northwest Oregon District.
