Limestone, Tenn. — David Crockett Birthplace State Park is set to host Crockett Days, a three-day festival commemorating the 238th birthday of legendary frontiersman David Crockett. The event, scheduled from Friday, Aug. 16, to Sunday, Aug. 18, offers visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in America’s frontier history.

The festival will feature various family-friendly activities and entertainment to celebrate Crockett’s enduring legacy. Attendees can expect living history demonstrations showcasing traditional frontier skills such as blacksmithing and other crafts. Storytelling sessions will highlight the adventures and explorations that defined Crockett's life. In keeping with the era's spirit, visitors are encouraged to don 18th-century attire.

“This is an event for all ages, and it will be three great days of fun,” said Park Manager Joe Nowotarski. “This is an appreciation of David Crockett, and it brings a great perspective on his life and times. Everyone is welcome.”

The festivities will kick off Friday at 6 p.m. with live music from local bands the Flying J’s and Ten Penny Drive. Saturday’s schedule begins at 9 a.m., featuring a Flintlock Shoot from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and concludes at 5 p.m. On Sunday, the event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional details can be found on the park’s Facebook page.

Beyond the festival activities, visitors can explore the park's historical and natural features. The 105-acre site, established as a state park in 1973, is situated along the scenic Nolichucky River. It includes an 18th-century living farmstead, a replica of Crockett’s cabin, a limestone marker commemorating his birthplace, and visitor center exhibits. The park is a memorial to Crockett, born near Limestone and later moved to Lawrence County in 1817. He famously died at the Alamo in 1836 while aiding Texans in their fight for independence from Mexico.

For those interested in extending their historical journey, the nearby Cherokee National Forest and the Crockett Tavern Museum in Morristown, where Crockett’s father once ran a tavern, offer additional points of interest.

Crockett Days promises to be an engaging celebration of one of America’s most iconic frontiersmen, providing an educational and entertaining experience for all who attend.
