JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Johnson City Rotary Club is celebrating National Merry Go Round Day with a free family event.

Johnson City Rotary is hosting Carousel Day on Saturday at CFJ Park in JC

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., community members can enjoy entertainment, vendors, food, and carousel rides. During the event, the basketball court, playground, and water spray park will also be open.

Known as the carousel capital of the world, Greater Binghamton is home to six carousels.

The CFJ park carousel is over 100 years old and is one of the area’s largest carousels.

Coordinator Sue Paredez calls the carousel a gem for the community.

“We are the carousal capital of the world, so it is significant because there are so many in our area. They’re free, they’re well taken care of, and very popular so it makes it a really important and unique part of our community,” said Paredez.

Paredez says the event not only celebrates our local carousels, but the beauty of Johnson City.

Admission to the park’s carousel is free. It is open until Labor Day from noon to 6 p.m.
