JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Recent high school graduates got the chance to get help with last-minute FAFSA needs at Science Hill High School on Monday during a “ FAFSA Frenzy”.

Director of a tnAchieves program named Knox Access, Allison Johnson, told News Channel 11 that the event’s goal is multi-faceted: to keep Tennessee Promise Scholarship students eligible during their college years and keep upcoming college freshmen on track to begin their first semester in the fall.

“We’re working with our families that are having a little bit of trouble filling out FAFSA this year, and we want to make sure that they get that done,” she said. “FAFSA is the easiest way to make sure that college is affordable. So that’s why we’re here, to help families complete that task on their journey to go into college.”

Johnson added that Aug. 1 is the deadline for TN Promise students to complete their FAFSA to remain eligible for the scholarship.

“We want to make sure that every student has every option to go to college, whether that’s a four-year, a TCAT, a community college; regardless of what their path is, we want to make sure that they’re on track, but in addition, we do work with the TN Promise Scholarship, and Aug. 1 is the deadline for FAFSA to remain eligible for the TN Promise Scholarship.”
