(WJHL) – It was a patriotic night at the ballpark across the Appalachian League on Thursday.

Johnson City wasted no time in Greeneville, as the Doughboys scored seven runs in the first three innings to jump out to a major lead. The Flyboys responded with four tallies in the bottom of the third, but it wasn’t quite enough in a 13-5 defeat.

Tommy Sheridan was 4-for-4 in the victory and drove in three runs to lead the Doughboys. Will Epstein added a pair of RBI, as well.

Brody Johnston launched a three-run homer for the Flyboys in defeat.

Another quick start in Elizabethton led the River Riders past the Axmen, 7-1.

Tanner Waldrop’s grand slam in the first frame set the tone for the home squad in the victory. Spencer Powell earned the win on the mound, hurling 4.0 no-hit innings, while striking out four batters.

Charlie Rogan turned in the lone RBI for the Axmen on the night.
