JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Johnson City Eye Surgery Center broke ground on its new cutting-edge Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) on Thursday.

The ASC will offer general care and will also be the first center in the area to provide specialty services.

“The new facility will have six surgery centers, and it will have state-of-the-art equipment to better meet the needs of our community for general care like cataracts, but also specialty care involved in [the] retina, cornea, ocular plastics and pediatrics,” said Ophthalmologist Jennifer Oakley. “So we’re excited to be covering all the subspecialties that are needed [for] eye care.”

Oakley mentioned that the current facility only has two operating rooms, and with the community’s growth, the demand for additional rooms is crucial.

“We are very excited about this moment. We have been planning this for years. And today’s a big, momentous day to finally get to break ground on our brand new facility.”

The Johnson City Eye Surgery Center anticipates opening the new facility in 2026.
