    Johnson City car dealership presents $52,000 check to Meals on Wheels

    Wallace Subaru of Johnson City continued its support of Meals on Wheels Northeast Tennessee Wednesday with the presentation of a check for $52,604.

    Combined with a donation of $48,392 in 2023, Wallace’s financial support of Meals on Wheels Northeast Tennessee topped $100,000 in two years.

    The $52,604 was raised during the car dealership’s annual Subaru Share The Love Campaign . From November 16, 2023 to January 2, 2024, Subaru of America and Wallace Subaru of Johnson City combined to donate $500 ($250 from Subaru of America and $250 from Wallace) to Meals on Wheels of Northeast Tennessee for each customer that purchased a new Subaru from Wallace Subaru of Johnson City and chose Meals on Wheels of Northeast Tennessee as their charity of choice.

    “Our customers responded amazingly to this year’s Share The Love event and the results are this incredible donation to Meals on Wheels,” said Travis Manuel, general new car sales manager. “All of us at Wallace Subaru of Johnson City are proud and honored to help just a little bit to provide support to seniors in need. Whether it’s a hot meal, a safety check or someone to talk with, this service is vital to so many.”

    Meals on Wheels Northeast Tennessee addresses hunger and isolation through daily delivery of nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks that enable seniors to live nourished lives with independence and dignity. Serving Carter, Greene, Johnson, Hancock, Hawkins, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington counties, the mission of the organization is to improve the quality of life of the seniors.

    “Meals on Wheels Northeast Tennessee thrives on the support and donations made by local businesses and organizations in our community. Our program is honored to be Wallace Subaru of Johnson City’s selected hometown charity for the Subaru Share the Love event,” said Jason Cody, executive director, Meals on Wheels Northeast Tennessee.

    “We are fortunate to be presented with this donation along with the additional support they have given. We look forward to the growth this partnership will make to provide more than just a meal to our senior community.”

    In 2023, Meals on Wheels Northeast Tennessee served 298,577 meals reaching a total of 2,753 clients in the eight-county area. Volunteers served over 21,500 hours for Meals on Wheels in 2023.
