JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A new training complex for the Johnson City Fire Department (JCFD) is set to be complete by October.
The training complex, located behind Station 7 at 2830 West Walnut Street, will house classrooms and offices for the fire department.
“It is exciting to see this amazing, state-of-the-art facility take shape,” Chief David Bell said in a news release. “This complex marks another milestone in the Johnson City Fire Department’s history and its commitment to excellence in firefighting and community safety. This project is part of the Department’s ongoing mission to ensure our firefighters have the tools and skills needed to protect lives and property effectively, no matter the challenge.”
The city broke ground on the $4.5 million structure on Sept. 11, 2023, by using American Rescue Plan Act funds.
A live fire and hands-on training (H.O.T) multi-story structure is part of the project’s second phase, the release stated.
According to the city, the H.O.T. structure will have burn cells on at least two stories and training capabilities for ventilation, rope rescue, forcible entry, search and ladder operations.
The estimated cost of the H.O.T. structure is $2.5 million and will be paid for by American Rescue Plant Act funds.
The JCFD plans to announce a starting date for construction and a projected completion date later this year.
