    Johnson City Commission OKs annexation request on Gray Station Road

    JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Johnson City commissioners approved an annexation request along Gray Station Road, where 33 housing units are planned.

    The plan is still early in the process of approval.

    Departments are reviewing the territory to determine a timeline for providing services and financial impacts.

    One commissioner said they approved proceeding with determining the viability of such a project due to the area’s housing shortage.

    “One of the things we can do to help allay that is ensure that we have a supply of housing sufficient to meet the needs of the people who live here,” Commissioner Joe Wise said. “We are told that we are around 2,700 housing units short.”

    A plan will soon go to the planning commission. If approved, it would then go before the City Commission.
