JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A nonprofit organization dedicated to the service and development of young women will close its Johnson City location in late July.

The Board of Directors for Girls Inc. of Johnson City/Washington County issued a news release Friday, announcing the facility would close effective July 26.

“This decision was reached after careful consideration of our financial situation and the evolving needs of our community,” the release states.

Girls Inc. leadership wrote that they are “immensely proud” of the impact the nonprofit has had on Johnson City and young girls over the years.

The nonprofit extended thanks to its supporters, volunteers, donors and staff who committed time and resources to Girls Inc.

Girls Inc. will focus on its remaining girls participating in programs as it approaches the July 26 closure date.

“While this chapter may be coming to a close, we are confident that the spirit of Girls Inc. will continue to thrive in the community through the ongoing efforts of those who believe in our mission,” the release states. “Together, we have made a difference, and that legacy will endure.”
