KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Greeneville Flyboys inched closer to a Appalachian League West Division title on Friday, as Johnson City fell in an extra-innings tiebreaker to Kingsport.

Even the 3-3 final score is a bit deceiving, as the game went into the ninth inning tied, 1-1. A Cal Sefcik solo shot gave the Axmen the lead, before a double steal allowed Science Hill alum, Caleb Marmo, to knot the game back up.

In the ninth, Johnson City swiped the lead on a bases-loaded throwing error. Nate Conner (Science Hill) followed it up with a bases-loaded walk, making it 3-1.

But, Sefcik blasted off again – this time a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth, tying the game, 3-3.

The Axmen would win the tiebreaker by holding the Doughboys off the board.

Conner drove in the lone run for Johnson City in defeat, while Felix Morin received a no decision for his 6.0 innings of work, allowing just one run on two hits, while striking out six batters.

Kingsport managed just five hits on the night, but got a strong start from Liam McCallum (5.0 IP, 4H, 0 R, 4 BB, 5 K) to hold the visitors at bay.

    OTHER SCORES:

    Flyboys 4, Sock Puppets 2

River Turtles 4, River Riders 2

State Liners 12, Ridge Runners 7
