JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – Former ETSU first baseman, Cam Sisneros, is just a day away from embarking on his journey as a professional baseball player in the Chicago Cubs organization.

He says, he wouldn’t have made it this far without his time at ETSU.

Sisneros told reporters this past week that he became a ‘completely different player’ in his two seasons with the Bucs. The coaching staff, particularly hitting coach, Chad Marshall, forced him to adopt ‘an elite approach’ at the plate.

He feels he has yet to master that approach, but one he does, the sky is the limit. In other words, 2024 is just the beginning for Cam Sisneros – as well as ETSU baseball.

This past spring, the Johnson City squad finished with a record of 36-20, reaching the SoCon championship semifinals.

Still, Sisneros and Bucs head coach, Joe Pennucci, believe there is still more to come for the Blue and Gold,

“I’ll be watching them for the years to come – and I really think this team kind of help set the standard for teams to come,” Sisneros said on Thursday. “So, I think people can look back at this team and be like, they’re going in the right direction.”

“ETSU baseball is in a really good place – and it’s a big part of what Cam has done, what our coaching staff is trying to do with our players – to continue to get better,” Pennucci added. “The standard has been set, we’ve just got to continue to grow that standard and make a new one next year.”

The Bucs had double-digit seniors in 2024, and will lose a handful of starters to graduation. However, the squad returns at least two underclassmen field players with significant starting experience, as well as a handful of top-tier arms for 2025.
