JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Nova is a dog who was recently taken in by the Washington County-Johnson City Animal Shelter. She came in with a bad case of mange and severe front leg issues that were in need of “extensive medical intervention.”

With the care of shelter staff and the veterinary expertise of medical providers , Nova is doing increasingly better this week.

Back to School: When do local schools start back?

The shelter’s director, Tammy Davis, visited the News Channel 11 studio with the playful Nova to describe the care she’s getting and how community support helps the facility give her the needed treatments. Davis noted that to keep Nova safe and happy, she’s staying in a foster home rather than the shelter at night.

According to social media posts by the shelter, vets have been providing Nova with physical therapy on her legs to help slowly correct them, and staff has been giving her regular medicated baths.

More information on the shelter can be found at wcjcanimalshelter.org.
