    ETSU alumni to compete in the Paris Olympics

    JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Two East Tennessee State University alumni will compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

    According to the university, golfer Austin Meronk of Poland and tennis player Sander Gille of Belgium will represent their home countries.

    As a professional, Meronk has two wins on the PGA Tour and just competed in the British Open. He also made his third U.S. Open appearance this summer. After playing golf for ETSU, he graduated in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in business and finance.

    Gille is coming off an appearance at Wimbledon where he and his doubles partner Joran Vliegan won their opening round. He started playing tennis at the age of six and took his athletic career to ETSU, where he graduated in 2012 with a business degree.

    The Olympics begin on Friday.
