Girls Inc. National releases statement after closure of Johnson City/Washington Co. facility

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – Girls Inc. National released a statement on Friday regarding the closure of Girls Inc. of Johnson City.

The statement was issued on the official day of the closure of Girls Inc. of Johnson City/ Washington County.

Girls Inc. National was extremely sorry to learn of the closure of Girls Inc. of Johnson City & Washington County, TN. We are working very closely with neighboring Girls Inc. Affiliates to ensure there is a continuation of services to girls in the Johnson City community.

There are two neighboring Affiliates, Girls Inc. of Kingsport and Girls Inc. of Bristol, who will be prepared to take girls in as early as the start of the school year in mid August. Both Affiliates are working to ensure the resources are in place to support as many girls as possible at their respective sites.

A release from the Board of Directors for Girls Inc. of Johnson City/Washington County stated that the facility’s closure is due to its financial situation and the community’s evolving needs .
