Charlotte M. Campbell, age 104, lifelong resident of Johnson County, died Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg. Charlotte Mae Vesely was born July 15, 1919, in Iowa County, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Helen (Jelinek) Vesely. Following graduation from University High School (U-High) in Iowa City she attended Iowa State Teachers College. On April 17, 1942, she was united ion marriage to Roland E. “Rollie” Campbell at the Evangelical Brethren Church in Sharon Center. In addition to being a farm wife and raising their children, Charlotte also for a number of years worked as one of the librarians at Northwest Junior High School and West High School.

The Thursday Night Live performer this week is Marc Janssen. Janssen is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, from rural Johnson County, IA. Growing up in a Midwestern small town. Janssen observed firsthand the balancing act of hard work and hard luck. He writes songs about everyday life. Janssen has been active in the Midwest traditional music scene since arriving in Iowa City in 2007. Performing on the fiddle, mandolin, guitar, steel guitar, and banjo, he regularly plays with multiple groups across multiple genres, including old-time, bluegrass, country, jazz, folk, and rock. The Thursday Night Live performance begins at 5:30 pm and is free to attend.
