Life happens: Franklin Theatre to host live taping of “Everything Happens” podcast
Kate Bowler found herself pondering this over and over. She had been diagnosed with incurable Stage IV cancer at age 35 and wasn’t expected to survive. Road work to reduce I-65 to one lane between Franklin and Edinburgh
Night-time lane closures are planned on Interstate 65 between Edinburgh and Franklin starting Monday. Indiana Department of Transportation contractor E&B Paving, Inc. plans to reduce both the north and southbound lanes of I-65 to one lane between Exit 90 at Franklin and Exit 80 at Edinburgh on or after Monday for night-time milling and paving operations in Johnson and Shelby Counties. The work will be split up between the southbound and northbound lanes, according to INDOT.
Pamela Hite Mann
Longtime Johnson County resident, Pamela (Hite) Mann, gained eternal rest after a short and courageous battle with leukemia on Monday, July 1st, 2024, at 6:15 am. She passed with her loved ones by her side just fifteen days after celebrating her 82nd birthday. Pam, more affectionately known as “Mom and Gams”, was one of four children born to the late Eugene W. and Patty Ileen (Jewell) Hite. Her life began on Tuesday, June 16th, 1942.

As the peak of summer arrives, so do the hot temperatures and the risk of children and pets being left in hot cars. In the past 25 years, more than 970 children have died from heatstroke because they were left or trapped in a hot car, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In recent years, there have not been any deaths from children in hot cars in Johnson County, but it could certainly happen here.

Official: Negotiations needed before Tracy Greenwood watershed reassessment approval
A Johnson County board again delayed the approval of reassessment rates for the Tracy Greenwood watershed Tuesday night, the last of the 48 watersheds being reassessed. The five-member county drainage board unanimously voted to direct Johnson County Surveyor Gregg Cantwell to negotiate with the city of Greenwood regarding the watershed, which is centered roughly in the area of U.S. 31 and Smith Valley Road in Greenwood. Normally, the Johnson County Surveyor’s Office is responsible for the maintenance of legal drains, per state law, but maintenance of this legal drain was turned over several years ago to the city of Greenwood.
