Johnston County nonprofits supporting education, health and human services can apply for grants from the Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment.

The N.C. Community Foundation established the endowment in 2015, and nonprofits in 41 eastern North Carolina counties may apply. Grants awarded to nonprofits range from $25,000 to $50,000.

“We are proud to carry out Mrs. Burevitch’s legacy of deep care for eastern North Carolina’s communities,” said Jennifer Tolle Whiteside, president and CEO of the N.C. Community Foundation. “We encourage all eligible charitable organizations to apply.”

Nonprofits can find the eligibility requirements and information on how to apply at bit.ly/45Nmqee.

Grant proposals must focus on education, health or human services. The foundation will give some preference to grant proposals that benefit women, children and youth or older adults, or serve southeastern North Carolina.

The deadline to apply is noon on July 30.

“Mrs. B,” as Burevitch was known to her friends, was a Wilmington native whose generosity was well known in southeastern North Carolina and beyond. Burevitch passed away in September 2014, leaving behind a fortune that few knew she possessed.
