The city of Johnston announced their new assistant city administrator will be David Wilwerding. He's been with the city since 2002 and has served as the community development director since 2007.

As assistant city administrator, Wilwerding will be responsible for overseeing community operations and collaborating with the city administrator to operate the department and guide the city's capital improvements program.

"I look forward to the new leadership challenges this role will bring and working closely with our talented staff members to continue to grow and improve the Johnston community," Wilwerding said.

The position was vacated in March when Teresa Rotschafer retired. At that time, the assistant city administrator was also the finance director, but the position was split when Rotschafer retired. Sarah Swisher assumed the role of finance director.
