Sunday cartoon: Kids’ bike safety
BURRILLVILLE – I’ve witnessed way too many kids riding bikes without wearing protective helmets over the past couple of weeks. It’s the summer season and there are plenty of kids riding their bikes outside enjoying their school vacation. I am happy to see kids outside playing and participating in wheeled sports activities, and playing baseball, basketball and football, instead of being inside playing video games, but their safety is my overall concern. Bike safety is extremely important, including wearing protective helmets to prevent head injuries that may be sustained if a child falls off a bike and hits the ground with a hard impact. Anything can happen at any given time. Take precautions helps reduce unintended injuries when it comes to children and families. We want children to be safer while riding their bikes. Kids should try to avoid busy streets and ride on a designated bike path. Kids should also wear bright colored clothing so they are easily seen while riding on their bikes.
