AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A home goods, furniture and appliance retailer is shutting some stores, including one in Grovetown and one in Augusta, after filing for bankruptcy. Conn’s HomePlus filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last Tuesday and announced it will close around half of its 170 stores, including one in Augusta at 596 Bobby Jones Expressway.

Ebony Dillard knew there had to be a better way to prevent her physical therapy patients from tripping and falling as they worked toward regaining their mobility. “We use belts or a band to hold feet apart. Initially, I thought of vibrations but with neuropathy, they might not feel it. I wondered what else could I use,” said Dillard, a physical therapy assistant at Augusta’s Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, whose idea of using magnets in a device came to fruition in a prototype in 2022. It should be on the market by year’s end.

Body discovered in Sumter County on Sunday afternoon; investigation underway
SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Deputies are joining the Sumter County coroner in the investigation of a body found on Sunday afternoon. According to a Sumter County Sheriff's Office spokesperson, the body was found sometime in the mid-afternoon off Highway 15 South near Clarendon County. Authorities said the body was found in a wooded area but didn't give the exact location due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
