Three Eagles Named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars
Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop men's golfers Ian Faulconer , Nick Mayfield and Ian Tucker received national recognition as each were named 2023-24 NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars. Faulconer was named for the second straight year as he was also named to the Big South Conference All-Academic Team. This is the first time receiving the honor for Mayfield and Tucker. On the season Faulconer played in nine events including the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regional as he finished with a collegiate-best scoring average of 74.87. Midlands teams win American Legion tournament openers
Rain delays kept Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24 from becoming the fourth and final Midlands team to qualify for the South Carolina American Legion tournament until Thursday. On Friday, it joined Lexington Post 7 and Camden Post 17 in advancing to the winner’s bracket with road victories. Led by a one-hitter tossed by pitcher Jake Peterson and getting two RBI on 4-4 batting from Cooper Raines, Chapin/Newberry shut out Charleston Post 147 7-0.

Panthers Welcome 10 New Coaches
Batesburg-Leesville, Greg Lawson, 3 season as Football Head Coach. The 2024-25 school year opens on July 30th this year in Batesburg-Leesville and with the new school year the Panthers welcome 10 new faces to campus with a few current coaches also moving into new roles. Jackets’ bats can’t keep up with birds in doubleheader
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Forced to play two after back to back rainouts, the GreenJacket offense was curtailed in both portions of the twin bill as the Pelicans swept the day with two wins, 2-0 and 9-1. The day’s first game began as a pitchers’ duel, with JR Ritchie and Juan Bello going toe to toe and firing three consecutive zeroes each. Both arms battled without giving up any runs into the fourth, when Pelicans’ center fielder Alfonsin Rosario kicked off the bottom of the inning with a towering home run beyond the grandstand in left field. Not to be outdone, Designated Hitter Andy Garriola stepped in immediately after and did the same thing, extending his league-leading home run total to 17 and putting Myrtle Beach up 2-0 in the fourth. Ritchie would leave one batter later. Although Giomar Diaz worked 2.2 scoreless innings, the ‘Jackets offense was submerged and shut out in Game One.
