Local Conn’s, Badcock stores closing due to bankruptcy
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A home goods, furniture and appliance retailer is shutting some stores, including one in Grovetown and one in Augusta, after filing for bankruptcy. Conn’s HomePlus filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last Tuesday and announced it will close around half of its 170 stores, including one in Augusta at 596 Bobby Jones Expressway.

Ebony Dillard knew there had to be a better way to prevent her physical therapy patients from tripping and falling as they worked toward regaining their mobility. “We use belts or a band to hold feet apart. Initially, I thought of vibrations but with neuropathy, they might not feel it. I wondered what else could I use,” said Dillard, a physical therapy assistant at Augusta’s Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, whose idea of using magnets in a device came to fruition in a prototype in 2022. It should be on the market by year’s end.

Three local Verizon Authorized Retailers will be giving away backpacks Sunday, participating in Verizon's 12th Annual “School Rocks Backpack Giveaway” event. TCC stores at 1100 Dutch Fork Rd. in Irmo, 1221 Chapin Rd. in Chapin and 851 Highway 378 in Lexington will give one backpack stocked with school supplies to each student who comes on Sunday.
Sumter police offer up to $5k reward in search for man wanted in teen’s killing
SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - A man wanted for killing a teenager in Sumter is on the loose and the police are offering a reward to anyone who can help find him. Police have been looking for Ja’Hugh Martin, 20, from Manning, who was chased by law enforcement Friday into the woods in Clarendon County off Interstate 95 across from Manning High School.
Fireflies Holiday Lights to return in November; discount tickets available
Fireflies Holiday Lights is returning to Segra Park this winter. The Miracle on BullStreet kicks off November 15 and will run through January 4 at Segra Park. The Fireflies are launching a special Christmas in July gift for those in the Midlands to kick-off the 2024 Holiday Lights season. Post 43 Seniors rebound to stay alive in state tournament
GREER – Two big innings for Fort Mill Post 43 allowed them to power their way to a 13-2 win and stay alive in the American Legion State Tournament. The win pushed Fort Mill to 19-6 overall as they move to the next round on Monday, July 29 at Francis Marion University. They are scheduled to play the loser of Florence-Chapin/Newberry at 4 p.m.
