COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — July 22nd each year is National Fragile X Awareness Day. Fragile X Syndrome can cause intellectual disability, behavioral and learning challenges. Emily Mack, former President of the board of the National Fragile X Foundation starting advocating for son Gavin who was diagnosed with Fragile X when he was a toddler after missing several milestones. Currently there is no cure which is why research and is so important. People with Fragile X can be helped through therapies, interventions and medications for behavioral symptoms. According to the National Fragile X Foundation, approximately 1 in 4,000 to 1 in 7,000 males have been diagnosed and approximately 1 in 6,000 to 1 in 11,000 females.
