JOLIET, Ill. — A Joliet-area golf course experienced significant damage from a thunderstorm on Monday, resulting in more than 100 trees lost and downed power lines.

The Inwood Golf Course initially opened in 1931 and was later renovated in 1989.

“We lost between 100 to 120 trees approximately,” said Brian Legan, general manager of Inwood Golf Course. “Some were over 70 years old and very strategic to the golf course.”

Closed for the last two days, Legan added that the course will open Thursday

“We are opening our front nine only on Thursday and will have golf being played once again,” he said. “We look forward to opening the full course as soon as possible.”

Joliet was hit hard by Monday’s severe weather, with police reporting downed power lines and trees throughout the city. Many roadways were either partially or completely blocked following the storms.

According to the National Weather Service, an EF-1 tornado raged from Minooka to Joliet Monday, from 9:07 p.m. to 9:23 p.m.
