Report Shows 110% Rise in Illinois Domestic Violence Deaths as Advocates Call for Action
Advocacy groups are sounding the alarm on a spike in domestic violence cases. A new report from the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence says domestic violence deaths in Illinois rose by 110% last year, with 94 incidents of domestic violence leading to 120 deaths in 2023. That includes 107 homicides and 13 suicides in which the perpetrators took their own lives. That’s up from the previous year, when there were 45 incidents that led to 57 deaths.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Good Friday Evening Heartland. We saw a hot and humid day with scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area. This evening we will see a few isolated thunderstorms that will weaken as we approach sunset. Outside of the storms conditions will be warm and muggy with temperatures slowly falling into the 70s. Lows by morning will be in the lower 70s. Saturday will start off with a little patchy fog giving way to partly to mostly cloudy skies we will see a few scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs will reach the middle 80s. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible Saturday night into Sunday. It will not be a washout but many areas will see at least some rain over the weekend Highs on Sunday will reach the middle 80s.
