JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Telford man was arrested by the Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) after he allegedly fled from a traffic stop and crashed a motorcycle during the pursuit.

According to a release from the WCSO, Christopher Cox, 34, was taken into custody following the pursuit and subsequent crash near Highway 107 in Jonesborough. Deputies patrolling the highway observed a black motorcycle driven by Cox going eastbound at a high rate of speed, the release said. A traffic stop was attempted, but the WCSO said Cox continued traveling east.

“Upon approaching the intersection of Highway 107 and Highway 81 South, deputies saw Cox’s motorcycle on its side and Cox walking in the middle of the road,” the release states.

The release said witnesses told deputies they were turning onto Highway 107 from Highway 81 South when they saw Cox speeding over the hill toward the intersection. The witnesses told the WCSO that Cox “never attempted to yield at the stop sign, attempted to make a turn onto Highway 81 South at a high rate of speed and flipped the motorcycle multiple times.”

Cox was arrested and EMS was called to the scene to check him for injuries. The WCSO said Cox refused transportation to the hospital and was taken to the Washington County Detention Center on an $11,500 bond.

He was charged with reckless endangerment, evading arrest, speeding, no drivers license, motorcycle license violation, expired registration, running a stop sign, failure to exercise due care and financial responsibility, according to the release.
