JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — Jonesborough welcomed the Fourth of July and the beginning of its 54th annual Jonesborough Days with a parade.

People lined up throughout nearly five blocks of Main Street to watch the parade. The children in the crowd were among the most excited for it to begin for a few reasons.

Young kids, Evelyn and Ryp, were looking forward to getting candy and necklaces. As floats passed by, they got their wish.

Floats, bands, emergency vehicles and more passed by while wishing people a Happy Fourth of July. When the owner of the Jonesborough Equestrian Center, Lori Fisher, was asked why she participated in the parade, she said it was for the kids.

“We came to the Christmas parade with a float and all of the horses and had a spectacular time, so the kids, of course, wanted to come and do the Fourth parade as well,” said Fisher. “Decorate their horses. Show them off a little bit.”

People on the Jonesborough Equestrian Center’s float even allowed News Channel 11’s Clarice Scheele to ride along in the parade.

People stuck around after the parade to check out the vendors and kid activities. The festival is packed with things to do, which keeps people coming back year after year. Wendy and Christopher Dise have been coming to Jonesborough Days for four years now.

“We love Jonesborough Days,” said Christopher Dise. “It’s great. Good entertainment. Nice music. Everything’s great.”

Live music starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until 9:30 p.m. Thursday night.

There are plenty of activities and events for Jonesborough Days until Saturday. The patriotic festivities conclude on Saturday at 10 p.m. with a fireworks show.
