JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — With one month to go before the first home varsity football game for Washington County Schools, the clock is ticking to finish stadium renovations .

Director of Schools Dr. Jerry Boyd says things are looking good.

“Well, as far as the timeline being established from the beginning of the project, everything’s on time,” Boyd told News Channel 11.

The $3.4 million project includes doing away with the old concrete home stands at both David Crockett and Daniel Boone high schools. New ADA-compliant metal stands with more seating capacity are being built. Underneath the stands, there will be new bathrooms and concessions.

Crockett’s first home game is on Aug. 23 when it hosts South Greene. Boyd says as long as the actual seating area of the stands is finished and safe, the game will be held but admits there may be some changes made if everything isn’t 100% completed.

“There may be some accommodations we make, but as far as a safe environment for spectators to come, that’s the number one priority,” Boyd said. “We may have to bring in some temporary extra restrooms and maybe some concession areas here and there.”

Across the county at Daniel Boone, workers have a little more time. The junior varsity football team will host a home game on Aug. 22, but Athletic Director Danny Good says plans are to have both Boone fans and those from visiting Erwin, North Carolina sit on the visitor’s side.

The first home varsity football game for Boone isn’t until Sept. 13.

But the game on most fans’ minds is the Musket Bowl. The 54th annual rivalry game between the two county schools will be held at Crockett on Sept. 6 and fans want to know if the project will be completed.

“In our community that’s certainly a reasonable question. And that’s a big push on our part to be 100% ready for the Musket Bowl,” Boyd said.
