Large structure fire in NW Joplin; Joplin Fire Marshal investigation
1 day ago
JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — Just after 6:30 p.m. reports of a structure fire at 305 N Connor alerted Joplin E-911.
Joplin Fire, Joplin Police and METS ambulance responded.
On arrival flames were reported through the roof.
We were near 20th and Malang about 4 miles away and could see smoke rising above the west side of Joplin.
Joplin Fire stated this would be a defensive attack on arrival as lines were being laid.
Ladder 1 launched into the air to fight the flames jumping 15 feet into the air. Then engine 2 fired up their deck gun and began shooting a high power stream into the flames down low. The deck gun also blew chunks of siding and wood all over the street.
It’s believed the structure was vacant. It appears to be a large storage building that was formerly a commercial business. It has an old loading dock.
Deputy Chief Andy Nimmo tells KOAM’s Shannon Becker on the scene 18 firefighters responded from Station 1 and others.
There were no injuries to firefighters or citizens he says.
The Joplin Fire Marshal has been summoned to investigate.
