Copper theft on the rise, Joplin Police say watch your AC units

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — Capt William Davis states that JPD has been seeing a recent uptick in the number of vandalisms and damage to air conditioning units for copper metal. This is for both residential and commercial properties.

Additionally telecommunications lines have been targeted around the area.

As we try to raise awareness to this issue, please keep in mind the following:

• ✅  Report incidents to police
• ✅  Contact JPD if you have any suspect information
• ✅  Report suspicious activity (if you see something say something)
• ✅  Ensure the disconnect box is locked/inaccessible
• ✅  Attempt to harden targets (attempt to conceal AC units, protective barriers or cages, lock fence gates, focused exterior lighting, alarm systems, security cameras, etc.)

Police ask everyone if you see something? Say something and contact Joplin Police. If it’s an emergency call 911.
