SUV leaves I-44 ramp, jumps across Main St, crashing 575-feet into the trees

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — Just after 11:15 a.m. Thursday reports of a crash into the wooded area on the NW sections of I-44 and South Main alerted Joplin E-911.

Joplin Fire, EMS and Joplin Police responded to find a newer model Jeep Grand Wagoneer far off into the trees.

On scene we are told the SUV was I-44 west, then took the off ramp to S Main very fast. Left the ramp and jumped both northbound lanes of Main. Landed and then ramped off the southbound lanes into the trees.

The male driver was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. JPD are still determining his condition.

Rosenberg Towing removed the SUV from the adjacent neighborhood on Lorraine Drive.

We roughly measured it at about 575-feet.
