A 52-year-old Lyft driver in Akron was arrested Friday on kidnapping charges after an altercation with a rider led to him driving off with the rider’s child in the back seat, police said.

Officers responded to a call at Arlington Street and Triplett Boulevard, where they found a frantic 25-year-old woman who reported a dispute with her Lyft driver, Steven Moore. According to the woman, Moore stopped the car during the ride, and when she got out, he sped off with her nearly 2-year-old daughter still in the vehicle.

While officers were investigating, dispatch informed them that Moore had driven to a fire station on E. Archwood Avenue with the child. Police responded to the station and found the child unharmed.

Moore was taken into custody without incident and charged with kidnapping. During a search, officers also discovered drug paraphernalia, leading to an additional charge. Moore was booked into the Summit County Jail.
